Red Tide Forecasting App

In the Gulf of Mexico on every beach, every day? Soon there will be an app for that. An app is
being developed by NOAA, GCOOS, Mote Marine Laboratory and the Florida Department of Health. It will also support fine-scale forecasts to better protect public health and coastal economies

Red tides caused by Karenia brevis (K. brevis) in the Gulf of Mexico can have a devastating effect on coastal communities, where severe blooms can cause millions of dollars in tourism losses and send people with chronic respiratory diseases to their local emergency rooms.

Kajun Custom Seafood Table

This is not a purely kayak fishing-oriented product, but it’s so cool, we want to let all of our readers know about it.  Our buddies at KC-Kayaks in Baton Rouge make some great kayaks out of thermo-formed plastic, and they also make this really cool table designed for eating seafood. Those Cajuns know a thing or two about preparing and eating seafood.  This thing really looks nice.

Rio Premier Level Lightline Fly Line

I don’t pretend to be an expert when it comes to fly lines, but I know enough to know that this new Rio line is a fine piece of fishing equipment. Designed for slower rods- like bamboo and classic graphite rods- this line loads at close range which makes it perfect for smaller creeks. A special coating ensures the line remains relaxed and easy to handle. The Rio Lightline features MaxFloat tips and MaxCast technologies for the very best in performance. All I know for sure is that this new fly line casts very well, and feels good in hand.

Z-Man Trout Trick Soft Plastic Lures

One of the bad things about fishing soft plastic lures for sharp-toothed saltwater fish is that the soft plastics are soon bitten away- often one fish does it for a soft plastic lure. The new Z-Man Trout Trick soft plastics are much tougher while still keeping a soft, life-like feeling and appearance. On a recent kayak fishing trip, we used the new Z-Man Trout Trick with good results, and the lures held up well to the teeth of several speckled trout
